Lens guide 101

Which lens must I buy? This is a great question that is often asked and there will never be an easy answer, since we all differ and have different needs. This is just some of lenses I would recommend.

Since I use Nikon, I will keep the lenses I talk about in the Nikon range. Kit lenses are a great buy for the average person out their looking to take photos of the kids playing on the beach. The Nikon D7000 kit lens is the Nikon AF-S 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED DX VR Lens that’s not a bad lens, very sharp and fast, great lens to have in the bag. For a little more money I would buy the Nikon AF-S 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED DX VR Lens , it has a rubber hosting that fits on the body, the zoom range is close to each other, and the 16mm can come in quite handy. This is one of the lenses that will be on the camera most of the time. These lenses also have an iinternal zoom which works great when there is a lot of dust.

A Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.4G lens, can’t think of any reason not to buy this lens. It does not cost an arm and a leg, it is very sharp, and you can shoot in very low light it is used for portraits shoots. Nikon AF 20mm f/2.8D Lens  is used to take wide angle photos and one can play around with this lens, very sharp and fast. Nikon AF-S 24-120mm f/4G ED VR II N Lens is a great lens, a good upgrade on the Nikon AF-S 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED DX VR Lens. I just think this lens cost a bit too much for me. Nikon AF-S 85mm f1.4G N Lens  is a great portrait lens that is very fast and sharp. It is great for studio work and low light shooting, I must say, Canon has a 85mm f1.2, but it cost an arm and a leg, it is very big and heavy, but if Nikon had one, I would probably buy one. Just wish they would add a image stabilizer in these lenses. Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II N Lens this lens I can describe in one word, awesome. Very fast lens, very sharp. Use for wedding, sport and portraits photography, the only bad thing about the lens is that is cost a lot. This lens can go hand in hand with a 2x convertor for wildlife photography. Nikon AF-S 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED VR N Lens  is a handy lens, very sharp and very fast. This is used for macro photography, mostly used my photographers on small animals like bees and ants. It has a switch in which you can use to take portraits as well. Brilliant lens to have in the bag. Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED N Lens work great with full frame cameras, the older lens was the 28-70mm, if you can still get it, buy one since the new version cost a bit more, great for wedding photography and this is a very sharp lens. Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED VR lens, great lens with a great price. I have one myself; it can be used for portraits, wildlife and sports photography. It is fast and sharp and does not weight too much. Internal zoom which works great when there is a lot of dust.

I will not touch the fix Nikon AF-S 600mm f/4G ED VR professional lenses, it cost too much, you can’t shoot out of your car with this lenses, even on a bean bag, it moves to much, people that use these lenses hire them for the time day need it. And stay away from the cheap brand sigma zoom lenses, sigma has great but the Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM Lens which I bought, was a waste, it is slow, and not very fast, the auto zoom motor gives lots of problems, and their warranty is not that great. I sold it not long after I bought it.

Remember to buy filters for the lenses to keep dust out and help them for if you maybe get a lens scratch, if you put it on the body make sure to not waste time, the longer the lens cap is of the more it takes on dust.

So to come to the conclusion, if I must invest in one great lens for everyday use, it will be the Nikon AF-S 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED DX VR lens . It still has a lot of complains on the internet, but I still prefer this lens, and like I said, the 16mm can come in very handy.

Be trigger happy and let the shutter of your camera, take our breath away!
